The Envy 14 is a powerful 14.5 inches gaming notebook powered by an ATI Radeon HD 5650 graphics card and Intel Core i5 processor. HP's take is a bit more daring with its textured dark metal lid and palmrest. The little divots in the lid create a subtle swirly pattern that can only really be seen when standing at a distance. Still, the curved metal edge that runs around the laptop comes to a rather sharp edge, and like the MacBook Pro.
The Envy 14’s lid is affixed to the chassis via two strong hinges; the lid's metal backing provides superb protection against bumps. The lid can be opened with one hand, which is convenient. The Envy 14 has an above-average amount of input/output ports for a 14-inch consumer notebook, including eSATA, HDMI, and mini DisplayPort. It lacks USB 3.0 and an ExpressCard slot. All picture descriptions are are listed from left to right.
The HP Envy 14 was powered by a 2.66GHz Intel Core i5-450M processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a 500GB 7,200rpm hard drive. It was also coupled with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 GPU with 1GB of VRAM. The processor and RAM alone pushed out some of the best benchmark scores which translated to very zippy everyday performance.
